1.Aveiro

Aveiro is a city on the Portuguese west coast founded by a lagoon known as Ria de Aveiro. It is distinguished by its channels navigated by colorful boats (moliceiro boats), traditionally used for harvesting algae. Not far from the center, known for its art nouveau buildings, is the Sé de Aveiro, with its prominent belfry. The Aveiro Museum, housed in a former convent, has an extravagant marble-built tomb.

3. Nazareth

One of the cities that produces the best crafts in Portugal, Nazaré is also known for its fishermen, its beaches and its traditional folklore. Nazareth became known worldwide for its waves in January 2013 when famed surfer Garrett McNamara rode a 34-meter wave!

 

4. Fatima

The most visited pilgrimage site on the Iberian Peninsula, Fatima was known when, on May 13, 1917, the Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherds in the form of Our Lady of Fatima.

 

5. Evora

Évora is one of the Portuguese cities with the best preserved historical center and one of the richest in terms of monuments, which earned it the nickname “Museum City”. In 1986, the historic center of the city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and, still today, this beautiful Alentejo city continues to tell its vast history that goes back more than two millennia.

 

6. Take

Tomar is a city known for its fabulous monuments, of which the Convent of Christ stands out, but also for its tourist potentials that allow the visit to numerous monuments of historical interest, archaeological relics, among others.

 

7. Coimbra

Known mainly as an academic city, with the foundation of the University of Coimbra dating from the year 1290, it was the National Capital of Culture in 2003 and is one of the oldest cities in the country. Its main ex-libris is its University, the oldest in Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries, as well as one of the oldest in Europe.

 

8. Port

Porto is the second largest city in Portugal and is known worldwide for its wine, its bridges, its contemporary architecture, its museum offerings, along with beautiful gardens and green spaces. The city center has been classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

 

9. Guimarães

Guimarães is the birthplace of Portugal, because it was here that the administrative center of Condado Portucalense was established by D. Henrique and his son and the historical importance of the Battle of São Mamede in the formation of nationality: “Portugal was born here” . Its historic center is considered a World Cultural Heritage.

 

10. Viana do Castelo

Viana do Castelo is a beautiful city in the north of the country that brings together the best of the countryside, the beach and the city, standing out for its popular folklore traditions, regional costumes and pottery art.

 

11. Guincho Beach

Located in Cascais, Guincho Beach offers excellent conditions for surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing. It is also famous for other reasons: it was the scene of a scene from one of James Bonds films "In the Service of Her Majesty", where James Bond rescues Countess Teresa of Vicenzo from a suicide attempt.

 

12. Arrábida Mountain

Serra da Arrábida is an elevation in the Setúbal Peninsula that has its highest point at 501 meters altitude. Its climate has a flora rich in Mediterranean species such as holm oak, cork oak and oak. Here lived the poets Frei Agostinho da Cruz and Sebastião da Gama, who made the mountain and its magnificent natural beauty a recurring motif in his works.
